Our vision is to fuel UK environmental action with new talent from UK Universities.
Exquisitely sculptural vessels “grown” from mycelium, upcycled tennis balls transformed with dyes for sensuously textured furniture, and delicate glass flowers crafted from bottles gleaned from London’s streets: these are just a few of the hand-crafted creations which six carefully-selected Green Grads are bringing to Craftworks, Jay Blade’s new three-day showcase at Shoreditch Town Hall, 15-17 May. The Green Grads will fill an entire room with finely-fashioned works that address a wide spread of environmental concerns.
But what is Green Grads? “We are a ‘platform’ founded in 2021 to nurture recent graduates of UK Universities who are confronting the world’s most pressing eco-issues,” explains founder/curator Barbara Chandler, who set up Green Grads in 2021. “Our graduates are tackling sustainability, climate change, circular making, waste and pollution, new materials, biophilia, bio-diversity and much more. We promote them through shows and other events. Many have honed excellent handmaking skills, and CRAFTWORKS is a great opportunity for them to shine.” There are currently 150 Green Grads listed on the Green Grads website.
